What Is Absence of Tears?
“Absence of Tears” is a series of mini-essays depicting the women and children the author has embraced at one homeless shelter in one city over a two year span. The true stories on these pages are an attempt to fill in the reality of homelessness by looking at as many individuals and situations as possible. Who are they? How did they “become” homeless? What can we, as a society, do to address the homeless situation in one of the wealthiest nations in the world? The answers aren’t always simple. They are not always clear cut. They are not always found. Some of the stories are enlightening and inspirational, yet others are difficult and heartbreaking. Abandon your preconceived notion about homelessness and learn what you can do to help homeless women and children in your city. The proceeds from the sales of this book are donated to local homeless shelters.
